Apply for Public Network#
After getting the cat disk, you need a public network to download the seed. I applied for a public network with Shenzhen Telecom, and the process was very pleasant. It was done with a phone call.
Usually, the application form will be sent to the local technician, who can remotely see the status of your public network.
After obtaining the public network, the first thing to do is to change the optical modem to bridge mode. It's best to communicate with the technician in advance so that they can help you with a one-click change in the background. The model of my optical modem is quite common, and there are step-by-step tutorials available online for bridge mode and router dialing.
Test Download#
With the guidance of the experts, I used Comet to download and QB to upload. (I hope that BT users in China will become stronger and stronger~)
During the test, I enabled the DMZ and Comet UTP download on the router, but the download speed was still in single digits. After ruling out the problems with the network cable and router through a series of tests and communication with the technician, it was confirmed that the speed was not reaching its maximum. I asked the technician to come for a survey. (To be honest, I have been paying more money than others every month, but the speed I have been getting is lower than others, which makes me uncomfortable.)
About BT#
What is the so-called BT ecosystem? It means that the files you need are uploaded from other people's computers, and after downloading them, you upload them to provide them to others. The medium used for transmission is broadband, so it's free!
However, for software like Thunder, they close the upload after finishing the download, which prevents others from downloading at a fast speed. Then they ask people to become members, and so on...
Most people in China are used to using Baidu Cloud, Thunder, Alibaba Cloud Drive, and other platforms to store their files. Although it's impossible for everyone to buy a large hard drive for storage, I hope that people in China can recognize the correctness of BT as early as possible. If the BT environment becomes stronger, the "big three" will collapse.
Follow-up#
Due to the previous tinkering, I have become closer to the Telecom technician, and he told me that I can now upgrade to a gigabit connection at a reasonable price. I agreed without hesitation, and after the upgrade, the experience is so smooth. (PS: The technician also gave me a WiFi 6 router and helped me replace the 10-gigabit optical modem.)
Buying Broadband on Taobao#
- Pay attention to hidden pitfalls, such as being forced to buy an optical modem, initial installation fees, and whether the price remains the same after the contract expires.
- Pay attention to whether it is possible to change, upgrade, or transfer ownership in the future, and whether there are any fixed rules.
- Confirm that it is an official staff member who comes for installation.
